Food safety is critical to the viability
of the hospitality industry. IH&RA has consistently promoted
food safety and security through its national associations and publications.

IH&RA Action – International Organisation for Standardisation
• IH&RA complained formally to ISO in June 2004 that the
foodservice and catering industry which it represented had not been
consulted in the process leading up to the draft international standard
on Food Safety Management Systems ISO 22000 (now adopted).
• IH&RA then obtained members’ feedback on this
draft standard and on the implications of its implementation. These
were consolidated and formally submitted to ISO in July 2004.
• IH&RA’s formal application for official liaison
status with TC 34 Food Products was officially approved by the Technical
Committee on 21 November 2004.
• ISO has also indicated that it welcomed and would formally
take into consideration the comments submitted by IH&RA.
