Disaster Relief Survey

IH&RA is a part of ICTP, the International Council of Tourism Partners, that is conducting this survey about how the industry should respond to best help those afflicted by the Disaster. Participate in this survey now and give your input!

This letter was sent on Tuesday, 4 January on behalf of ICTP.

Dear ICTP member,

We are beginning to get suggestions from Members as to response actions (emergency information service, voluntary tourist contributions etc.)

We believe this could be a positive contribution if structured in a useful way - ICTP is therefore asking you two simple questions:

• Is there anything that you believe the world tourism community should be doing immediately to respond to the current situation

• Is there anything that you believe the world tourism community should be doing in the medium term (12 months) to respond to future disasters.

Feel free to make suggestions that cover individual, corporate, government and institutional action – we have some ideas ourselves and will bring them out as they crystallize. We will in any event prepare a report for delivery at ITB.

In the final analysis the scale and nature of this drama makes the number of information and response mechanisms too numerous to contemplate. But as an organization committed to responsible tourism and travel professionals we see our role as providing a thoughtful stakeholder voice and a support to the sector.

Your information will be shared with the World Tourism Organization, as well as organizations such as Green Globe, PATA, WTTC, IIPT and, of course, IH&RA.
