Leading experts to speak on Crisis and Risk Management

Francesco Frangialli, head of UNWTO and Alan Bryden, head of ISO, will report on latest developments in Crisis Management underway in these two international agencies. Paul Moxness, Head of Corporate Security at the Rezidor Hotel Group, will share with delegates his thoughts on the latest threats to hospitality in the Post 9/11 world. Crisis and Risk Management and Prevention ranks high on the agendas of key public and private sector bodies around the world.

The UN World Tourism Organisation has just flagged up the need for a more strategic approach to risk and crisis management. In an effort to further increase its existing response mechanisms, UNWTO has allocated additional resources and realigned its general Programme of Work for the Years 2008/2009 to meet this challenge more effectively. Francesco Frangialli will update delegates in Amman on UNWTO's current and future activities in this area.

The International Organization for Standardization decided in 2006 to set up Technical Committee 223 to develop standards to improve crisis management. The work focuses on increasing crisis and emergency management through technical, management and operational approaches, as well as interoperability of emergency services. Alan Bryden will update delegates on progress towards developing these standards. (For more information on TC 223 see, ISO Focus: September 2007 issue here.) Paul Moxness, Head of Corporate Security at the Rezidor Hotel Group, will inform delegates of the alert mechanisms available to the hospitality industry and of the changing nature of threats affecting the industry. He will also speak of Rezidor's involvement in the IH&RA Global Council on Security and in the UNEP/APELL project currently runnning in 3 coastal tourism destinations in South East Asia.

Dr Ghassan Aïdi, IH&RA President, spoke on Crisis & Risk Management in the Hospitality Industry at the UNWTO conference on Safety & Security held in Cairo, Egypt, 26-27 June. (Click here to acces the powerpoint presentation)
