The U.S. hotel industry posted increases in all three key performance measurements during February 2011, according to data from STR. In year-over-year measurements, the industry's occupancy was up 5.2 percent to 55.7 percent. Average daily rate ended the month with a 2.5-percent increase to US$98.95. Revenue per available room for the month rose 7.9 percent to finish at US$55.15.

Some of London's most prestigious hotel brands are taking legal advice over their contracts to supply rooms at preferential rates to London Olympics organisers after learning that their rooms are being resold by agents at what they consider "grossly inflated prices". Marriott International announced today that it has signed agreements with Real Estate Group LLC, a subsidiary of Bloom Properties, to manage two properties in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They will be part of Bloom Central, a mixed-use development including 16,200 square meters of office and residential space on Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum St. (Airport Road), one of Abu Dhabi's main access roads to the city's central business district. The site is a 20-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
